Weber Shandwick seeks an experienced and energetic senior technology editor to develop stories and shape features for a technology client.This position will sit on New York’s integrated media team but will work hand-in-hand with the tech media teams on a daily basis. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong track record of writing and reporting stories on cutting-edge technology and will have a strong grasp on the types of stories that drive engagement with a variety of audiences from media to consumers.
The Senior Editor will be responsible for helping to inspire, drive and advance media coverage. Our Senior Editor will serve as our in-house expert on trends driving the computing and IT industries and will also help inform clients’ strategies through an ongoing analysis of media and corporate brands’ digital content offerings. Our editor will also help develop new content in collaboration with clients’ multiple content producers.
Position will directly report to an SVP of integrated media but will support teams across Weber’s technology practice.
Storyline development across a wide range of technology topics including Cloud, IT, Security and AI, all in partnership with the Weber media teams.
Research and reporting to advance pitches and expand upon existing stories. Includes heavy interview work.
Content creation in partnership with brands' in-house content teams.
Creative contributions to larger editorial features, including collaborations with video production partners and social leads.
Maintenance of pitch calendars and tracking of storylines in need of further development.
Ongoing analysis of both corporate and media tech brands' social channels, websites and native advertising content.
On-site reporting at tech-focused conferences/events.
Qualifications and Requirements
7-10 years of editorial experience on the digital team of a major technology media outlet AND/OR in-house content development experience for technology company.
Extensive reporting and long/short form feature-writing experience.
Strong business acumen of technology, IT and telecom trends and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling narratives for a wide range of audiences.
Experience in covering conferences/live events including the development of editorial coverage plans.
Experience within a bustling newsroom environment.
Past experience working with brand publicity/press teams.
Track record of running daily editorial meetings.
