Practical Law is looking for a Senior Legal Editor to develop and create resources directed to in-house counsel and to otherwise assist Practical Law’s Editorial, Sales, and Marketing teams in the continued growth and development of the Practical Law product offering for corporate counsel (the Law Department service).
The Senior Legal Editor will:
Develop ideas for Law Department content to be published as part of Practical Law’s online services, working with editorial representatives from various Practical Law practice areas.
Oversee the development of Practical Law’s collection of Law Department Operations and Management resources.
Draft, write, edit, and peer review legal resources, including standard form documents, practice guidance notes, presentation materials, and checklists in accordance with Practical Law writing style, including law department management and operations resources, as well as a variety of substantive resources of interest to in-house counsel.
Develop relationships with in-house counsel and attend corporate counsel conferences and other trade events, to ensure that the Law Department service’s content is topical and meets the needs of in-house lawyers.
Work with Practical Law and **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Corporate Counsel Marketing and Sales teams on initiatives and market research to better address the needs and priorities of the in-house counsel segment.
Commission and review resources drafted by law firm, in-house, and legal operations consultant contributors.
Write and edit content for Practical Law’s companion magazine, Practical Law The Journal.

Candidates should have at least the following skills and experience:
Must have both in house and law firm experience.
Significant experience in addressing and managing law department operations, optimally including:
workflow/project and process management (including use of technology);
contract management (including contract automation);
retaining and managing outside counsel;
leadership/managing and developing the legal team;
budgeting legal costs; and
using data and metrics to analyze and demonstrate performance.
Minimum twelve (12) years’ experience as a practicing lawyer, with both law firm and in-house experience, handling a range of transactional matters in one or more practice areas, as well as managing law department operations. Some in-house generalist experience preferred.
A good understanding of the legal and operational needs and priorities of in-house counsel.
Skill and passion for writing, including:
very close attention to detail;
impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; and
the ability to draft and write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
Ability to constantly collaborate with and support team members.
Flexibility in working on tasks other than writing legal resources, such as supporting the sales and marketing teams in their efforts to market the Law Department service, giving presentations at conferences and offices of potential subscribers, and responding to subscriber inquiries regarding Law Department resources.
Enthusiasm and desire to improve the efficiency of in-house legal services.
