Job Description General Dynamics IT has an opening for a Senior Technical Editor in New Orleans, LA. Successful candidates must be able to pass a government background investigation. Candidates must be a resident of the U.S. and to have resided in the country for the previous 3 years with no longer than a 90 day absence. Seeking a motivated and energetic Senior Technical Writer to join our superb team of software developers. We want a dedicated individual who wants to learn and expand their technical writing skill and provide exceptional documentation support to the team. Primary duties include the research, preparation and editing of technical documents. Principal Duties and Responsibilites:\u00a0 1. Experience in the research and preparation of technical materials. Also requires knowledge of the principles and practices of technical research, writing, and editing, as well as word-processing and desktop publishing applications and computer equipment as required. 2.\u00a0Prepares and edits a wide variety of complex technical materials for publication, including user\u2019s manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, and reports; reviews, researches, and edits information for preparation of contract deliverables; provides support to the creation of proposals and multi-media presentation materials, including slides; responsible for the coordination of multiple aspects of document publication; participates in the design and development of marketing brochures, conference programs and proceedings, public relations announcements, and other materials when requested; may supervise and direct the work of word processing, graphics and\/or technical writing staff; coordinates and attends various conferences and meetings; plans budgets, schedules and priority of work for publications projects. Researches, prepares and edits complex technical documents for publication, including user\u2019s manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, and reports.\u00a0 3. Reviews, researches, and edits information for preparation of contract deliverables. 4. Ensures documents meet editorial and customer specifications and adhere to standards for quality, graphics, format, and style. 5. Interfaces with writers, illustrators, word processors, and subject matter experts in coordinating\/preparing the edited draft for publication. 6. Participates in the creation of proposals and multi-media presentation materials. 7. Participates in the design and development of marketing brochures, conference programs, public relations announcements, and other materials when requested. 8. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced technical documentation staff members. 9. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned. 10. Participates in special projects as required. Education Bachelor\u2019s Degree in English, Journalism or a related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work\/military experience. Qualifications Must have at least five years\u2019 directly related experience in the research and preparation of technical materials. Also requires knowledge of the principles and practices of technical research, writing, and editing, as well as word-processing and desktop publishing applications and computer equipment as required. Required Skills: 1. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices involved in technical research, writing and editing. 2. Must have advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Power Point. Knowledge and ability to use various word-processing and desktop publishing software applications. 3. Knowledge of the organization\u2019s products and services, customer requirements, purpose and structure of required documentation, and end user\u2019s level of understanding. 4. Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills. 5. Strong administrative and organizational skills with fastidious attention to detail. 6. Proven ability to support multiple projects and tasks at once, and effectively prioritize in a fast-paced work environment to meet deadlines. 7. Ability to work professionally, effectively, and efficiently in a team environment with various stakeholders. Desired Skills: 1. Experience with Microsoft Project, Visual Studio Team Foundation Server (TFS), Confluence, and Paint. 2. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Sharepoint. 3. Experience working in a technical environment. 4. Ability to smoothly manage work assignments and excel in a stressful environment. 5. Positive attitude and dedication. IT\/Technical writing experience and Oil & Gas experience preferred. Gov experience in a fluid contract\/customer environment also preferred.
