A national provider of hotel management services, is looking for an experienced Technical Writer to document the companies many projects and process flows. The ideal candidate is someone who has a passion for excellence and focus on details. The technical writer will be responsible for all aspects of requirements documentation, process flows, data diagrams and training materials. The company is experiencing strong growth and so the candidate should be capable of being forward looking, while at the same time shoring up current capabilities.
General Job Functions
This position will be one of a team of writers creating process- and system- documentation, training guides, and implementation guides for applications and processes. This position will work with business analysts and developers as well as other writers and the project team at large. This individual must be technically-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines. The Technical Writer will also assume some responsibilities for developing new documentation plans and training plans and serving as a subject matter expert for application content.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain process, system, training, and implementation documents in any or multiple of these formats: Word documents
Flow-charts or swim-lanes
Use cases or UML diagram
Construct and maintain datasets to support said documents.
Create and maintain all documents in a central repository with all reference materials needed to reproduce those in web-format, hardcopy, or pdf.
Assume responsibility for managing and coordinating update schedules for said materials.
Participate in developing documentation and training plans for new applications and/or new processes.
Communicate regularly with Business Analysts, Developers, trainers as well as other writers to ensure documentation is accurate and effective.
Assume responsibility for managing and coordinating collaborative portions of the documentation materials.
Perform content review of other writers’ documentation.
Skills and Specifications
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, including styles and templates
Familiarity with Visio, including styles and templates
Familiarity with share point as a document management, version control, and publishing service
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Education and Qualifications
2-5 years’ experience writing or editing documents
4-year degree/certification in technical communication or related field
Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work as part of a fast-paced, dynamic team
Proven ability to effectively communicate with others to achieve desired results; must be approachable. This role interacts with internal and external resources with a technical or operational background.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with little supervision
Ability to adhere to corporate standards and styles
Ability to manage multiple projects within strict deadlines
Hotel or hospitality experience a plus
Knowledge of accounting principles and HR principles is considered a plus
