Senior Editor Jobs

The senior editor is a core member of the editorial group, and works closely with the director, managing editor, section editors, and associate editors on all editorial facets of a publication house. Senior editors brainstorm and develop ideas for upcoming issue themes, identify, contact, and collaborate editorially with new and prospective writers, and regularly contribute their own writing and analysis to the project.

In addition to the above, the senior editor will work closely with the editor-in-chief and the managing editor, sharing skills and acquiring the experience necessary over time to assume an increasingly central role within the publishing house.

The primary responsibilities of a senior editor include: overseeing the management and production of current products and to expand lines through new product development and expanding distribution of products by using print, CD-ROM, and web media.

The ideal candidate should have 2 to 4 years of independent writing and editing experience publishing under regular deadlines, and the demonstrated ability to thoroughly research stories and topics while handling multiple tasks in a fairly organized manner. An ability to brainstorm effectively with strong-willed editorial collaborators is a major plus. The senior editor must live or be willing to relocate to where the headquarters of the publishing house lie, whenever he/she is required.
