Editing Jobs description
Editing is a very exciting, stimulating, and enjoyable profession for anyone who enjoys people and observing their behaviour. It is not a suitable career for those who cannot handle stress. Applicants need to be the kind of person who can sit and watch others panic while they map out a plan and a solution to the problem or problems.To be excellent in editing requires intelligence, instinct, good interpersonal and managerial skills, a deep knowledge of literature, art, history, world events, and the knowledge of how to make them interesting to the readers.
Daily newspaper and newscast editing requires people who can be on their toes and can recognise a newsworthy article instantly and use it effectively. Within 24 hours, the editor must be able to organise a front page or newscast that has everyone reaching for the paper or intent on listening to the radio or watching the television.
In large newspaper concerns, editing can become an extremely hectic job and requires a calm person who can think quickly and make big decisions instantly. For some editors the main daily task is to make order out of chaos.
Editing weekly and bi-weekly newspapers, magazines, television, and radio shows is very similar but a little less hectic. There is more time for the editor to plan the layout and more time for articles to be written, photographs to be taken and developed and deadlines are usually met on time.
